About the Artist
Liz's work is inspired by the fundamental connection between all aspects of nature and the underlying principles that govern the architecture of the natural world. She is moved by the similarity of forms and patterns across disciplines and across scale, for instance the shared resemblance between clusters of stars in the night sky, and the way cells group together under the microscope and in our bodies. Liz incorporates and transforms imagery from a variety of sources including botany, physiology, geology, decorative pattern and design. Her compositions are informed as much by natural patterns as they are by experimenting with materials in a process that requires consideration, spontenaiety and countless translucent layers of paint. These paintings are the expression of her enduring interest in the fundamental and undeniable relationship of all aspects of the natural world– using space, color and texture, and evocative forms that hover in a landscape of pictorial space.
Liz was born in Rockport, Massachusetts and now lives and works in Monterey, California. Her work has appeared in shows in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Carmel and New York.
