Celia Marais at Four BarrelThrough March 2, 2010
Field Excursion consists of nine portraits of strange creatures, which were made out of pieces of meat and fish, and given the names of existing or imaginary bacterias. Some of these specimens were modeled and animated, and integrated into the website for electronic musician Amon Tobin.

Before --- New Paintings by Anna UraPart of the Four Barrel Art Series
Before is Anna's
new series of paintings that are on view this month in San Francisco. Based on photographs and video stills taken while traveling, they conjure up the time we spend in between the places we go -- sometimes the strongest memory we have of the trip. They are truly worth the visit. She and her new baby will be in attendance for the opening, so come by and say hello.

Haircut ArtAaron and Mandy Dietz show at Ritual
Mandy and Aaron Dietz have been working on
Haircut Art for two years, shooting friends and strangers at Supercuts on Fillmore. “It’s all about the simplicity of the idea. We chose not to go to a fancy, expensive salon, because that’s a different thing. We set out to capture a basic haircut, and what that does to a person’s appearance – and spirit.” The similarities of the side-by-sides are a result of taking lots of shots to find the best match. “It’s interesting, because the pose is so straight. Your eye looks for consistencies but also finds differences.”

True Art or Fake?Take the quiz, smarty pants
This isn't really Beholder news, but I think it's funny. (Even funnier is that I only got half of them right. Oops.) For extra credit, go on the Donald Judd or Cheap Furniture quiz.
